Kentucky Sr. Match Play: Semifinals set

LA GRANGE, Kent. (June 12, 2013) -- Quarterfinal Play in the KSGA Match Play Championship kicked off on a very hot and humid morning at Oldham County Country Club. A total of 4 players are left In each of the 5 flights moving into tomorrow’s semifinal matches.

Terry Bowman of Louisville knocked off defending Champion Randy Crowdis with a 1 UP victory on the last hole. The number 2 seed in the Championship Flight, Happy Rakestraw of Somerset, Kentucky continues his consistent play with a 2 & 1 victory over Bill Creason of Louisville. Tom Scheuerman beat out five time KSGA Match Play Champion Rick Cain 5 & 4 to continue to the quarterfinal round. Steve Rogers of Bowling Green took David Pohlmann from Louisville to 21 holes before closing out the last match in the Championship Flight this afternoon.

In Flight #1 Dennis Long from Shelbyville beat Ricky Bourne of Owenton 5 & 4 and will be the overall favorite in his flight moving into the quarterfinals. Silas Boyle continues to impress with his 1 UP victory over Jim Orr. Tom Reddick of Bardstown will face Ken Roederer from Louisville tomorrow to determine the final match for the afternoon.

Flight #2 had some close matches in the middle of the day. The sixteen seed, Allan Crain from Danville moved on with a 2 & 1 victory over John Allison of Louisville. Fred Gupton from Louisville took down Steve Houchen with an impressive 2 & 1 victory in the early afternoon. Dennis George of Lebanon won his match against Elmo Greer from London 5 & 3. He will square off against Mark Tudor from Louisville mid-morning tomorrow.

John Boyd II from Louisville closed out Tim Cushman on the 19th hole in Flight #3 to advance to the quarterfinals. Michael Smith of Louisville beat Moe Miller from Taylorsville 2 UP to face Boyd tomorrow. Dan Trent from LaGrange and Jerry Edwards of Louisville will tee it up tomorrow to determine the finalists for the afternoon.

Bob Brawner of Louisville took Barry Hickman to the 20th hole before claiming his spot in Thursday’s bracket. Bob Price from Louisville won his match 7 & 5 against Garry Bernard from Prospect. He will face Marc Lewis from Louisville in the first match of the morning. Tim Tudor will square off against Bob Brawner after he defeated Jim Stricker 4 & 3.
