The Bridgestone J15 Family of Forged Irons

Bridgestone is certainly a major name in the golf equipment business, but the first thing you're likely to relate to their brand is their golf balls, which are endorsed by the likes of David Feherty and Lee Trevino in some of the most fun commercials on golf tournament TV. In the equipment realm, Bridgestone is more of a niche player. But make no mistake, they make a high quality product.

Here we examine the J15 family of forged irons.

Bridgestone has introduced forged irons in the past, but this line of irons are designed to appeal to a wide range of players. This demographic includes everyone from professional tour players to the weekend high handicapper.

Josh Kinchen, Golf Clubs and Accessories Marketing Manager at Bridgestone Golf, is confident this line of irons will have a large appeal. "Bridgestone has had a cult following since we first introduced the J33 forged irons a decade ago, largely because of our clean, classic designs and Japanese precision engineering. We have maintained that heritage and incorporated some really innovative new technologies that will make this our best performing and deepest offering of premium forged irons ever."

The J15 forged iron family consists of 4 models including the J15 MB (Muscle Backs), J15 CB (Cavity Backs), J15 DF (Driving Forged) and J15 DPF (Dual Pocket Forged). Each club is designed for very different players, but all clubs feature Bridgestone's new Sure Contact Sole. This design feature is meant to improve turf interaction allowing the desired turf interaction players want. Bridgestone has engineered each of the four J15 forged models with a heel sole that is unique to each club within each set.

J15MB Muscle Backs

These irons are constructed of premium Carbon Steel and have the smallest heads and narrowest soles of the J15 forged iron family. They might be less forgiving but offer shot shaping workability and versatility. Aggressive swingers will be rewarded by the flat sole design. Retail price for 4-PW is $789.

J15CB Cavity Backs

If you feel your game is up to par with Brandt Snedeker, the J15CB might be the right clubs for you. Constructed from premium forged Carbon Steel, the compact head design provides tour-level control and shot shaping capability. Retail price for 4-PW is $790.

J15DF Driving Forged Irons

These clubs feature a compact two-piece premium forged Carbon Steel design and have less weight in the center. A hollow cavity exists between the front and rear of the clubhead offering balance and forgiveness. The sole offers better control and a thinner face allows for more distance. Retail price for 4-PW is $880.

J15DPF Dual Pocket Forged Irons

Clubs are constructed from premium forged Carbon Steel and feature a rubber pocket within the back of the face. The rubber backing helps to decrease vibrations upon impact and weight is shifted to the perimeter of the club offering stability on off-center hits. A wide, rounded Sure Contact Sole allows for consistent contact as well. Retail price for 4-PW is $790.
