Champ has stepped up their grip game by offering a combination package of 13 rubber performance grips.
The C8 Performance Set provides golfers with a complete set of grips in three models, each one delivering a specific benefit, packaged together to give you a value price. You can also buy the C8s individually to get more color options, but we went for the package to get the full effect of playing grips tuned to specific clubs.
The set we tested came in jet black with a white crisscross pattern, with color coordinated tips and butts in red, yellow and green that represent Power, Control and Feel.
The four Power grips, with red accents, are made from TPO/Tacky/Kevlar®/Anti Shock, have a firm feel and are designed for the driver, 3/5 woods and hybrids.
Five Control grips, with yellow accents, are made from TPO/Tacky/Anti Shock, have a medium feel and are designed for the low to mid irons.
The FEEL grips, four of them, have green accents and are made from TPO/Tacky and have a soft feel, and are designed for the high irons and wedges.
One of the features that stood out is the surface pattern and tackiness of the grips, helping keep a solid hold even in rainy conditions. And the shock absorption with each shot, no matter how well or how poorly the contact, was superior.
The addition of Kevlar in the material gives the grips greater strength and durability, allowing for greater torque control and increased wear resistance in the Power and Control grips. With a premium price for these grips, I would expect these grips to outlast my old ones, and the Kevlar (think bullet proof vests) is just the material to make that happen.
Overall, I love the feel of the C8 performance grips, and also love the fact that I can get these all packaged together. They’re easy to install and should last a long time, and the tackiness and feel of the grips is fantastic.
