Arthur Temple's dream for Crown Colony Country Club began in the mid 70's when Temple, a highly successful businessman in the timber and paper goods industry, would board a plane to meet his colleagues in New York where a round of golf would usually be included as part of the business dealings. While flying back to Texas, Temple began to contemplate a top-notch course where he could entertain clients, use as an active business development and have as a showcase to his East Texas golfing friends. The result of his vision was hiring two of the best architects in the business (Robert von Hagge and Bruce Devlin) and turning them loose on a higly scenic, rolling piece of East Texas property dotted by 100-foot pines and several lakes.

The course opened in 1978, and the Temple Cup was started two years later. In 1989, many of the same players who were instrumental in starting the Temple Cup created the Temple Cup Senior. Both tournaments have long drawn deep fields and have enjoyed the repuation of being among the most enjoyable events on the schedule.
