Florida Amateur: Alfieri & Seiffert lead after 54 holes
JUPITER, Fla. (June 23, 2012) -- Joe Alfieri and Chase Seiffert are tied for the lead heading into the final round of play in the 95th Florida State Amateur Championship at The Bear’s Club in Jupiter. The Championship concludes with the final round on Sunday, June 24.

After 54 holes of play, Joe Alfieri of Lutz, and Chase Seiffert, of Panama City, are tied heading into the final round of play with a three-round total of two-under par 214. Alfieri carded a one-over par 73 at The Loxahatchee Club and followed up with the low round of the Championship with a five-under par 67, in the second round to hold one stroke lead entering the weekend. On Saturday Alfieri got off to a hot start turning in one-under par 35, but stumbled down the stretch closing with a three-over par 39 for his round of 74. Seiffert, currently a member of the Florida State University golf team, posted rounds of 68-73 to trail Alfieri entering the final 36-holes of play. In the third round, Seiffert birdied holes 3 and 4, but then found trouble on number 6 making a triple bogey to turn at one-over par 37. He continued his solid play making three birdies and three bogeys for his round of one-over par 73. Both players will be looking to win their first Florida State Amateur Championship on Sunday.

Brant Peaper, of Tequesta, stands alone in third place after rounds of 75-70-71, for a tournament total of even par 216 through 54-holes of play. Other notable players still in the mix include a number of past State Champions. The 2012 Mid-Amateur Stroke Play Champion, Don Bell, of Port Orange, is currently tied for sixth place with a tournament total of 221, the 2010 State Amateur Champion, Sean Dale, of Jacksonville, and the 2010 Boys’ Junior Champion, Hank Leboida, of Winter Springs, are currently tied for eighth place with a 54-hole total of 222.

ABOUT THE Florida State Amateur

Started in 1914, the Amateur Championship is the oldest continuous sporting event in the state of Florida. The field will include exempt players and players who have qualified through 18 holes of stroke play at one of the qualifying sites. The Championship features a field of 168 players split alternately on two golf courses the first two days. The field is reduced to the low 70 and ties after the first two rounds to play an additional 36 holes of stroke play.
