Notre Dame leads Big East Championship after Round 1
REUNION, Fla. (April 29, 2012) -- The Notre Dame men own a one-stroke lead after the first round of play at the 2012 BIG EAST Men’s Golf Championship held at The Watson Course at Reunion Resort & Club in Reunion, Fla.

The Irish are looking for their second-straight title. Notre Dame shot 284 as a team to hold a one-shot advantage over Louisville after day one. Irish junior Paul McNamara sits in second place individually after shooting a four under-par score of 68. He recorded six birdies and two bogies during the round. Defending champion Max Scodro fired a three under-par 69 to sit alone in third place.

Louisville senior Justin Dorward leads the field individually after shooting a five under-par 67 opening round. Dorward posted five birdies without recording a bogey on the day. The Cardinals finished the opening round in second place after shooting a 285 team total. Senior Chris Buiso is tied for seventh place after posting a one –under par 71.

Villanova finished the round in third place with a score of 293. The Wildcats were led by junior Michael Kania who is tied for fourth place individually with an opening round of 70. St. John’s and Georgetown are tied for fourth place after posting rounds of 294. Georgetown senior Taylor Hall finished two under-par and is tied for fourth place. Brian Dorfman of Georgetown and Dylan Crowley of St. John’s also shot one under-par rounds. Seton Hall and Connecticut are tied for sixth place with rounds of 295. Seton Hall junior Brandon Park is in a tie for fourth place. Connecticut freshman Chris Wiatr is tied for seventh place.

USF finished in eighth place with an opening round 297 while Marquette shot a 299 and ended the day in ninth place. DePaul is in 10th place with a score of 303, Rutgers is in 11th place with a score of 312 while Cincinnati finished the opening round in 12th place with a score of 313. Second round action begins Monday at 8 a.m. Eastern.
