WAC Tournament: New Mexico State leads early

HENDERSON, NEV. - New Mexico State leads at 2-under par (286) after the first round of the WAC Men's Golf Championship at the 7,313-yard, par-72 Rio Secco Golf Club in Henderson, Nev. UTSA's J.J. Lindsey carded the best score of the day with a 3-under par 69 to lead by one stroke. New Mexico State has three players in the top-six as Derek Baade and Willy Hogan each shot a 2-under 70, while Kenneth Fadke shot 1-under 71.

The highlight of day one came on the front nine where first-round leader Lindsey (-3) shot a 6-under par 30, with a birdie on six of the nine holes.

Utah State shot a 4-over par 292 on the day followed by UTSA at 293 (+5). Idaho and UT Arlington each finished at 6-over par and are in a tie for fourth place with a 294. San Jose State is in sixth with 296 (+8), Seattle U in in seventh at 297 (+9), Denver is eighth at 300 (+12), Texas State ranks ninth with 302 (+14) and Louisiana Tech is tenth at 305 (+17).

The three-day tournament continues on Tuesday with second-round tee times beginning at 7 a.m.
