Idaho, Fresno State lead WAC Championship

HENDERSON, NEV. (April 30, 2012) -- Idaho and Fresno State are tied for the lead at 1-under par after the first round of the WAC Men's Golf Championship at the 7,313, par-72 Rio Secco Golf Club in Henderson, Nev. Idaho's Sean McMullen carded the best score of the day with a 7-under par 65 to lead by three strokes.

Idaho had two players in the top-four as Jarred Bossio shot a 2-under 70. Two other players shot in the 60s, including Utah State's Tanner Higham (68) and San Jose State's Jay Myers (69).

The highlight of day one came on the 15th hole when Fresno State's Brian Sunker recorded a hole-in-one on the 189-yard par 3. Sunker finished the day with a 2-over 74.

Idaho and Fresno State each shot a 1-under par 287 on the day followed by San Jose State at 290 (+2). New Mexico State finished at 5-over par and is in fourth place with a 293. Utah State is in fifth with 294 (+6), Nevada is in sixth with 301 (+13) and tied for seventh are Hawai‘i and Louisiana Tech at 304 (+16).

The three-day tournament continues on Tuesday with second-round tee times beginning at 7 a.m.
