Oregon Women's Amateur: Inglis and Vaughn advance

PORTLAND, ORE (June 22, 2011) -- With the field parred down to the top 32 women and 64 men from the stroke play qualifying stage of the championship, match play commenced at the 102nd Oregon Amateur at Waverley Country Club.
The Women's Division played first as the young guns continued their winning ways as medalist Caroline Inglis of Eugene, Ore. routed Rachael Fisher of Portland, Ore. 8 & 6, defending champion Monica Vaughn, 16, of Reedsport, Ore. won her match 2 & 1, and 14-year old Gigi Stoll of Portland won easily with a 7 & 6 win.
Two matches went extra holes, one including 2009 Oregon Amateur champion Amy Simanton of Lake Oswego getting a scare as she needed 19 holes to dispatch Rosie Cook from Bend, Ore.
One of the biggest surprises came from former Oregon Junior Amateur Champion Avery Collura of Vancouver, Wash. who gave Whitney French an early exit. French, who plays for Oregon State, recently qualified for the U.S. Women's Amateur Public Links that will be held next week at Bandon Dunes Resort.
