UCLA wins Western Intercollegiate
For the first time in eight years, UCLA came out on top at the historic Western Intercollegiate, hosted by San Jose State at Pasatiempo Golf Course in Santa Cruz, CA.

The victory was UCLA's third of the season and gives the Bruins some momentum for the upcoming Pac-10 Championship at Stanford, Apr. 29-May 1.

The Bruins posted a final round score of 371 (+21) in the best five-out-of-six scoring format and totaled 1,066 (+16), eight shots ahead of runner-up USC. Oregon and Augusta State tied for third at 1,076 (+26), followed by fifth-place San Diego State at 1,085 (+35).

Individually for the Bruins sophomore Pontus Widegren tied for fifth place at 210 (E) following a round of 73 (+3) on Sunday. Junior Alex Shi Yup Kim placed seventh at 211 (+1) after posting a final round score of 71 (+1). Freshman Patrick Cantlay tied for 13th at 214 (+4) following a 75 (+5) and junior Gregor Main tied for 15th at 215 (+5) after his final round score of 75 (+5). Sophomore Pedro Figueiredo tied for 23rd at 217 (+7) and Mario Clemens placed 57th at 224 (+14).

Timothy Madigan of New Mexico State won the individual title, posting an even par 70 to finish at 207 (-3).

ABOUT THE Western Intercollegiate

54-hole men's college tournament hosted by San Jose State University. “The Western” is one of the most highly recognized national collegiate tournaments, conducted since 1946 Pasatiempo Golf Club; a historic venue where a player’s talent is always well-tested. Pasatiempo perennially ranks among the best by all of the major golf publications.

The format is slightly different than most college events. Six-player teams take the best five scores each round to determine the team score.
