SAN DIEGO, Calif. (August 8, 2009) -- Local legend Harry Rudolph, a former All-American at Arizona who played alongside Jim Furyk, won his first tournament in ten years on Saturday at Torrey Pines South Course.

Rudolph, a former California State Amateur champion, played the pro tours for many years, advancing to the final stage of "Q-School" but never gaining fully exempt status. He quit golf in 2000 to run his family's business, but after regaining his amateur status this year his game appears to be as sharp as ever.

Using a long iron to reach 200 yard-plus par three's where many players reached for Hybrids, and driving the ball on a string, Rudolph began the tournament with rounds of 67-65 at the tricky Balboa Park Golf Course last Saturday, and a fully-tipped Torrey Pines North Course on Sunday. Even with a week between second and third rounds, it was going to take some serious help from Rudolph if anyone was going to catch him, and he offered none by posting a steady 73 on the South course en route to a 6 stroke victory over Connor Driscoll.

Rudolph, ironically, had never played the San Diego City, and now he has his name on the 73 year old trophy.

"It's fun to win a tournament in my hometown," said Rudolph, 39.

Jamie Puterbaugh of Carlsbad, who has been set back by injuries this year, couldn't defend and go for five straight titles.

Southern California Golf Association Senior Champ Howie Knodt of Chula Vista won the Senior Division by two strokes over Coronado's Steven Hakes, at 3-under 213.

Christy Fogerty won the Women's Division, also by three, over Petra Cole and Kristen Allard.
