SNOHOMISH, Washington (May 30, 2016) -- Kevin Beavers, of Harbour Pointe Golf Club successfully defended his title at the Snohomish County Amateur. Beavers posted rounds of 73-72-71 for a 3 day total of even-par 216 winning by 2 shots over Brandon Agnew and Jacob Rohde.

Beavers wasn't a birdie machine, as he posted an average of 2.33 birdies per day. But it was the lack of too many bogeys, and no doubles or "others" that separated him from the rest of the pack. And his bogey count went down every day -- by the final round he made just one against two birdies to post his lowest round of the tournament, a 1-under 71.

Agnew birdied two of his last five holes to get into a tie for second with Rohde, after losing ground with bogeys on three of the first four holes on the back nine.

Beavers is a Boeing engineer and the assistant boys golf coach at Kamiak High School. He told The Everett Washington Herald that he found both victories difficult, even last year's, which he won by six.

“I was more nervous to start [in 2015]... and then as the round progressed I slowly became more comfortable,” Beavers said. “Today I started off comfortable, but as the round went on I started to tighten up a little bit. ... I’m very proud of myself for hanging tough because it was not easy.”

Beavers is the eighteenth player to win repeat titles. But to win three in a row? That would put him in rare company, as only one player (longtime Washington amateur golfer Bob Burton) has done it, in 1973, 74, and 75.

“I’ll be back,” vowed Beavers, who dedicated this win to his sister, Erin Beavers of Tualatin, Ore., who will soon deliver Kevin Beavers’ first nephew.
