SOUTHERN PINES, North Carolina (February 7, 2016) – A field of 116 amateur golfers from 9 states competed in the 17th Annual Mid Pines Invitational Golf Tournament at Mid Pines Golf Club in Southern Pines, North Carolina. This is a very popular team event, which annually attracts a strong field of golfers, and is played on the Donald Ross designed golf course which was recently remodeled at the hand of Kyle Franz. The Mid Pines Invitational has become one of the most prestigious team events to kick off the tournament season in the Southeast.

Senior Champs Dean Channell and Tuck Burkinshaw

Virginians Vincent Nadeau from Zion Crossroads and Brandon Grogan from Martinsville took home the top prize in the Open division with a 11-under par score of 133. For Nadeau and Grogan, this was their first win in the Mid Pines Invitational. Joe Jaspers from Huntersville and Jim Autry from Concord came in second with a 9-under par total of 135. Tracey King from Selma and Kevin Miller from Clayton tied with John McCord and Nick Shelton from Tullahoma and Franklin, Tennessee, respectively, for third place with a score of 137.

Dean Channell and Tuck Burkinshaw, both from Cary, won the Senior division with a 13-under par score of 131. Tennesseans Clay Uselton and James McCord from Tullahoma, finished second with a 9- under par score of 135.

Virginians Harold Payne and John Duty Sr., Tennesseans Jon English and Craig McElhaney and New Yorkers Patrick Dwyer and John Kircher finished with a three-way tie for third place with a total score of 137.

The 18th Annual Mid Pines Invitational is scheduled for February 3-5, 2017. ABOUT THE Mid Pines Invitational

Of the seven Donald Ross courses in the Sandhills area, this is the only one with the original routing left in place. A fun 36 hole team event played on a wonderful 6500 yard golf course. Open Division, Senior Division (both players must be 50+).
