ROSEBERY, Australia — After trailing other amateur players during the first three rounds at the Australian Open, native golfer Ryan Ruffels finished as low amateur with a final-round 68 pushing him into a tie for 21st place.

Ruffels entered Sunday as the fourth best amateur through 54 holes, trailing Americans Bryson DeChambeau and Jordan Niebrugge and Taiwan's Chun-An Yun. DeChambeau reached the weekend in a tie for 14th place, but posted 74-72 in the final two rounds and finished a shot behind Ruffels and tied for 30th place.

Ruffels shot 70 on day one, but struggled to 74-75 on Friday and Saturday before going 3-under on Sunday to make quite an impression amongst the professionals in the field, like winner Matt Jones, and runners-up Adam Scott and Jordan Speith.

Yun, like DeChambeau, carded 72 and tied for 30th. Niebrugge, a senior at Oklahoma State, fired 73 and finished 10 places back in 40th.
