Quarterfinals play is now in the books at the US Mid-Am in Vero Beach, as Sammy Schmitz, Brad Wilder, Marc Dull and David Bolen advance to the semi finals this afternoon.

The only single-digit seed left, the #8 Schmitz faces off against 53-seed Brad Wilder at 12:30 EDT. To get there, Schmitz defeated Joshua Irving 4 & 3, taking the lead on the first hole after an Irving bogeyed the hole. By hole no. 11, the lead was 3-up. A birdie putt on no. 15 proved to be the winning shot, as the lead went to 4 with three holes left to play.

Wilder, from Fort Wright, Ky., went back and forth in his match with Jess Daley of Palm Beach Gardens, Fla. Wilder took the lead on the inward nine but made the turn all square. A bogey on no. 10 by Daley was corrected with a birdie on no. 11, bringing the match to all square once again. On the 17th, a par-5, 494-yard hole, Wilder found himself in birdie position and took advantage, going 1-up. Both players matched par on no. 18, giving Wilder the 1-up win.

At 12:45, 39th-seed Marc Dull faces 38th-seeded David Bolen. Dull, a resident of Lakeland, Fla., defeated David Gies II in a match where he never trailed. Four birdies helped his cause, his last coming on the short par-4 no. 15, which gave him a 3-up lead and left the match dormie. Both players posted par on the 16th hole, giving Dull the 3 & 2 win.

Lubbock, Texas’ David Bolen handled #51-seed Todd White, who earlier in the year teamed to win the US Amateur Four-Ball Championship. Bolen started out on fire, with birdies on three of his first four holes. He was 3-up after four and never looked back. Another birdie on no. 14 put him at 4-up, and after each player made birdie on 15, the match was over with Bolen winning 4 & 3.

Updates will be made as matches progress in the afternoon.
