Hanson, Olson share lead at Pacific Northwest Mid-Amateur
Erik Hanson
Erik Hanson

VICTORIA, Canada — Former MLB player Erik Hanson of Kirkland, Wash. and Rob Olson of Victoria, B.C. sit at 2-under par 140 with Thursday's final round to go at the Pacific Northwest Men's Amateur Championship.

Hanson, who pitched 11 years in the big leagues, most notably for the Seattle Mariners from 1988 to 1993, shot even-par 71 on Wednesday to follow up 69 from the opening round.

Olson has posted opposite rounds of Hanson, carding his 69 in the second round. His day got off to a fabulous start, making eagle on 1. Then he reached the 11th hole at five-under par for the day, but bogeyed three of his last eight to lost control of his commanding lead.

Hanson and Olson will head to the final round up one on Brent Wilson, who with a second-round 65, got back into contention and is just a stroke behind despite shooting 76 in round one. One of three first-round leaders, Michael McAleer, shot 74 on Wednesday and is two shots back in fourth place.

Playing Bear Mountain Golf Resort in Victoria, B.C., this 54-hole championship features the best amateur players over the age of 25 from the Northwest area of North America, including the states of Oregon, Washington, Idaho, Montana, and the Canadian provinces of British Columbia and Alberta.
