HILTON HEAD, S.C. — While former No. 1-ranked amateur in the world Corey Conners was making his professional debut, Virginia Tech senior Scott Vincent was one of two amateurs in the field this week at the PGA Tour's RBC Heritage.

Along with 2014 U.S. Amateur winner Gunn Yang, who was fresh off his first Masters appearance, Vincent received a sponsor's exemption to play at Harbor Town Golf Links, and made the most of his opportunity. He carded consecutive rounds of one-under par 70 to make the cut, entering the weekend in a tie for 40th place.

In round one, Vincent had a stretch of 12 straight pars before closing out his round with a birdie on 17 to post 70. In his second round, Vincent started on 10 and got off to a great start with birdies on the first two holes before dropping back to even at the round's halfway point. Then an eagle on the par-five 2nd got him started on the front, but a disappointing bogey on the ninth kept him from breaking 70 on Friday.

Still, the 2014 Players Amateur winner will see the weekend, something the newly turned-professional Conners wasn't able to do in his first chance. The 2014 U.S. Amateur runner-up from Canada struggled to a 77 on Thursday before rebounding with 70 on Friday.

UPDATE: Vincent shot even-par 71 on Saturday, followed by a 73 on Sunday and finished in a tie for 64th place at Harbor Town Golf Links.
