TAMPA, Fla. — Scott Harvey, who recently captured the South American Amateur in Lima, Peru, won again at the Gasparilla Invitational, which due to heavy rains on the final day was shortened to just 36 holes.

Originally scheduled for a 54-hole tournament ending Saturday at Palma Ceia Golf & Country Club in Tampa, Fla., heavy rain, wind, and even lightning forced tournament directors to call the final round off, declaring the 36-hole leader Harvey the champion at 70-69.

The win is Harvey's second of the year after wrapping up the South American Amateur in January. Having won the 2014 U.S. Mid-Amateur, Harvey plans to play in the Azalea Invitational in March before heading to Augusta.

Kent Crymes of Birmingham shot back-to-back rounds of 71 and took second place, followed by Joe Alfieri and Brian Armstrong at three-over par 143.

The Gasparilla Invitational, a popular mid- amateur event that draws a national field, was cancelled for the first time in 59 years in 2014 due to a fungus that took over the course's greens.

More than 120 players took part in the 2015 event in its return, including over 50 senior players. Steve Melnyk, former broadcaster, Fred Ridley, former USGA President and current chairman of the competition committees for the Masters, and Buddy Alexander, recently retired Florida Gator golf coach took part in the event.

David Clement of Henderson, Ky. took home the senior title with his T5 finish. He shot 68 on day two.
