RANCHO SANTA FE, Calif. — Loyola Marymount
teammates Chase Nicolai and
Cole Young were medalists by three
shots at Tuesday's U.S. Amateur Four-Ball
qualifier at The Farms Golf Club in Rancho Santa
Fe, which will host an NCAA
regional men's championship in April.
Young, who is a member at The Farms, and
Nicolai, of Long Beach, fed off of a string of six
birdies in
seven holes in the middle of their round to
secure their ticket to their first USGA event.
The streak was sparked by a 50-foot putt made
for birdie by Young on the 8th hole, followed by
birdies on 9, 10, 11, 13, and 14. After parring
the difficult, 470-yard par-four 17th, the duo
birdied 18 to cap off the 64.
Coming in second place were four other teams
at 67. After playing off to determine the
remaining two spots, Jordan Nasser and Taylor
Wood, as well as Ashwin Arasu and Sahith
Theegala emerged as victors and will be
headed to The Olympic Club in May.
The groups of Joe Benedetti and Scott Gibson,
and John Fischer and Greg Padilla, despite five-
under par 67s, will serve as first and second
alternate, respectively.
