ROSEBURY, Australia — In a thrilling final on Sunday at The Australian Golf Club, Cameron Davis secured his place in history as an Australian Men's Amateur champion, winning on the 37th hole against Tyler Hodge.

Through 14 holes, the New Zealander Hodge had Davis, of Australia, in a 4-down hole. But by the time the two reached the halfway point, Davis had won four consecutive holes to force the match all-square.

Davis didn't take the lead at any point in the match until the 31st hole — the par-4 13th when his par won the hole to take a 1-up lead with five to play. He bogeyed the 16th and the two went to the final two holes at all-square.

Both players made par on 17 and 18 before Davis made birdie on the first extra hole to claim victory.

Davis had been playing well heading into the tournament, finishing inside the top-15 at the Australian Master of the Amateurs, where he tied the course record of 63 at Royal Melbourne, and placed third at last week's Lake Macquarie Amateur.
