Brandon Harkins wins Monterey Open, Daniel Semmler is low amateur

MONTEREY, Calif. (Oct. 15, 2014) — Former
Web.com Tour player Brandon Harkins of Walnut
Creek, Calif. captured the 54-hole Monterey
Open at Del Monte Golf Course on Wednesday.
Harkins conquered the par-72 course with three
straight rounds in the 60's. Harkins posted 66,
65, and 66 to cruise to a two-shot win. Creighton
Honeck led by a shot entering Wednesday's final
round but fell into solo second place with a
finishing 69.

The lowest amateur in the
field was former San Jose State Universty golfer
Daniel Semmler of Belmont, Calif. The recently
graduated opened with 74 but carded back-to-
back 69's to finish in a tie for 18th place.
University of Santa Barbara sophomore Derek
Trofimczuk
was the second lowest amateur in the field as
the Cameron
Park native finished tie for 25th with rounds of
69-75-70.
Defending champion Michael McCabe of
Thousand Oaks
finished in a tie for seventh eight shots back of
Harkins. He
carded 68-69-68 in his attempt to repeat.
ABOUT THE Monterey Open
Professionals and amateurs are entered
into a 3-day, 54-hole, stroke play competition.
The
field
will be cut to the top 40 players and ties
for the
final 18 holes. All professional and
amateur
players are able to enter the open/scratch
flight.
Amateurs must have a valid USGA
Handicap index
of 2.4 or below.
