Qualifying is now complete for the inaugural
U.S. Amateur Four-Ball Championship, being
held at the prestigious Olympic Club in San
Francisco, Calif. May 2-6.
Below are the accumulating results from the
qualifying sites, which began
on August 13 and run until March 31, 2015.
March 31, 2015 | Spring Creek Golf Club |
Gordonville, Va.
The team of Kent Crymes and Jason Owenby of
Birmingham, Ala., shot seven-under par 65 to
lead three teams who qualified in Virginia on

March 30, 2015 | Sara Bay Country Club |
Sarasota, Fla.
Brian Keenan and Paul Royak posted 66 to medal
at Florida's last qualifier,
beating out Tee McCabe
and Jeff Williams by a stroke, though the
second-place pair qualified, as well.
March 28, 2015 | The Bluffs Resort | St.
Francisville, La.
Brothers Bret Pinson of Baton Rouge, La. and
Clay Pinson of St. Francisville, La.
fired a five-under par 67 to earn medalist honors
at The Bluffs Golf Resort on
Saturday. Patrick Bailey and Seth Thornton, both
from Houston, Texas, also
qualified for the championship proper after
shooting a four-under par 68.

March 23, 2015 | Desert Forest Golf Club |
Carefree, Ariz.
Three teams posted 67 at Desert Forest and
were among five teams qualifying
in Arizona. Eric Sage and Mark Wagner, Eric and
Clark Rustand, and Jason Allen
and Jason Greiner were crowned co-medalists,
beating out the rest of the field
by two shots. Six teams shot 69 to tie for third
place, though only two teams
are heading to The Olympic Club. Marc and Tyler
Apps, as well as Matthew
Simone and Cory Bacon were the groups moving
on.

Pinehurst, N.C.
William Gordon of Davidson, N.C. and Steve
Harwell of Mooresville, N.C. carded a nine-under
par 62 to take medalist honors while Nolan Mills
of Charlotte, N.C. and Henry Shimp of Charlotte,
N.C. and Sherrill Britt of West End, N.C. and
Greg Earnhardt of Greensboro, N.C. secured the
final two qualifying spots in a 3-for-2 playoff
with pars on the first playoff hole.

Reigning Florida Mid-Senior champion R.J.
Nakashian was
among the two groups to
qualify for the U.S. Amateur Four-Ball on
Monday at The Fox
Club in Palm City,
Florida. Nakashian, and his partner Stephen
Anderson, were
co-medalists along with
Daniel Eggertsson and Jason Feng at 65.
Matthew Marino and
Donald Wolfe, despite
also shooting 65 on Monday, were granted the
first alternate
spot as the duo lost
out in the playoff.

Four teams shot 68 at Ol'Colony to head to a
playoff for
the two available qualifying spots for
this national championship. Forrest Crabtree and

Hynson, both from Mobile, advanced
in the playoff, as did Lew Mitchell of Birmingham
and Will
Swift of Hoover. Both teams made
par to move on. Brothers Clay and Jake Nolen,
both of
Hoover, and Jeff Helfrich of Stuart,
Fla. and Chris Moore of Memphis, Tn., failed to
advance
from the playoff after both teams

A trio of teams all posted five-under 66 at
South Carolina's lone U.S. Amateur Four-Ball
qualifier,
securing all three spots for The Olympic Club in
May. Kyle Milner and Josh Branyon, Hunter
Watkins and
Gary Wilkerson, and Michael Sims and Jordan
Byrd will all be headed west for the inaugural

Mira Loma, Calif.
The duo of Jeff Fortson and Michael Walton shot
eight-under par 63 to medal at Goose
Creek Golf Club in the final California qualifier.
Fortson, a three-time U.S. Mid-Amateur
competitor, and Walton, a former Pepperdine
University golfer, made no bogeys and
eight birdies en route to their first-place finish.
The players edged three other groups
who shot 64.
Also qualifying for their trip to The Olympic Club,
winning two spots in a three-way
playoff, were the groups of Iain MacDonald and
Bob Valerio, and David Bartman and
Edward Fryatt.

Ridge Golf
Club in Oxnard, Calif., a father/son duo of Jim
and Scott Williams shot
nine-
under 63 to
medal by three shots and earn their spot at The
Olympic Club in May.
Also
qualifying at
River Ridge were Oliver Rheinfurth and his
parter Marc Reyes.
Rheinfurth, 55 of
Westlake
Village, and Reyes, of Los Angeles, needed a
playoff to squeeze into
the final
qualifying
spot after shooting six-under 66.

Shooting seven-under par 63 at the Alister
Mackenzie-designed
Pasatiempo Golf Club in Santa Cruz, Calif. were
Southern California
residents Satch Herrmann and Daniel Ragsdale.
Their round, which
included two stretches of three straight birdies,
was low by two shots.
Tying for second place at Pasatiempo were
Stanford golfers Maverick
McNealy and Viraat Badhwar, as well as Hussain
and Ahmed Ali at five-
under 65.

Rancho Santa Fe, Calif.
Loyola Marymount teammates Chase Nicolai and
Cole Young were medalists by three
shots at The Farms, which will host an NCAA
regional men's championship in April.
Young, who is a member at The Farms, and
Nicolai fed off of a string of six birdies in
seven holes in the middle of their round to
secure their ticket to their first USGA event.

Olson
and partner David Reneker advanced through
sectional qualifying in a playoff at Del Paso CC
on
Monday to grab one of the available spots, firing
a 6-
under 65. Olson, 31, is one of UCLA's all-time
passing leaders; Reneker, 46, was a member of
the
Bruins golf team.
Chico State golfers Alistair Docherty and Lee
Gearhart earned medalist honors at 8-under 63,
while Scott Colby and Gary Deblaquiere of
Granite
Bay, paired in the same late foursome as
Docherty
and Gearhart, shot 64 and also advanced.
In the playoff, the Olson/Reneker team and
Gary
Dunn and John Peterson birdied the first hole,
while
Kevin Kobalter and Kyle Gentry (who also posted
65)
were eliminated after making par. Olson and
Reneker went on to defeat Dunn and Peterson
with a
birdie on the fourth playoff hole.

Tim Mickelson, brother of the most famous left-
handed golfer in the world, Phil
Mickelson, qualified for the U.S. Amateur Four-
Ball Championship on Monday along with
Jake Yount at Poppy Hills Golf Course.
Mickelson, now the head golf coach at Arizona
State University, once coached Yount when
Mickelson was head of the University of San
Diego program. Mickelson and Yount fired a
best-ball score of 63, claiming medalist
honors by one over brothers Jason and Ryan
Higton.
Claiming the third and final qualifying spot at
this site were Brady Exber and Kevin
Marsh, who won a three-team playoff at 65.
Exber had a remarkable 2014 season on
the senior amateur circuit while Marsh, the
Crane Cup tournament director, recently
won the Southern California Four-Ball with
partner John Pate.

It's going to be tough to beat this story

reflecting on the amazing things that can happen

an 18 hole qualifier for an inaugural USGA
Championship. It may take a while for it to ever
happen again.
Physican's assistant Bill
Walbert, 47, was called into surgery at Tripler
Army Medical Center the morning of November
12 in
Honolulu. That meant he
couldn't make it to Honolulu Country Club for his
qualifier. Instead, his partner Brent Grant, 18,
shot
the round of his life, a 9-under 63, to earn the
pair a
spot in the May 2-6 event at The Olympic Club in
San
Francisco. And get this -- their location had only
one
spot available so the two teams that shot 64
were
shut out.

Club
- Sugar Land, Tex.
Two teams qualified at the Riverbend Country
Club site — one of two U.S. Amateur
Four-Ball qualifying tournaments to take place
in
Texas thus far. Michael Board of Spring
and Drew Jones of Decatur were medalists with
65 while Andrew Wyatt and Brett
Douglas of Midland came in second with a 66.
Four other teams shot 66 and lost to the
Midland duo in a playoff.

Bay Club at Mattapoisett hosted a popular
Massachusetts site, yielding
four qualifiers to the main event in May.
Brian Bardier and David Jones were top dogs,
shooting 64 to earn
medalist honors. The seven-under round
included seven birdies and no bogeys for
Connecticut residents. Billy
Forcier and Patrick Rahn, both from New
Hampshire, punched their ticket with a 65 while
Bill Vanstratum and
Michael Walker got in with 66. Rounding out
the four spots were Victor Galvani and J.D.
McNeill, who carded a 67 and
advanced in a playoff over
Herbie Aikens and his playing partner Matt
