Palladino, White extend lead to six at The Williams

ROCHESTER, N.Y. (Sept. 19, 2014) — After opening the John R. Williams Four-Ball Invitational with a 66, Nick Palladino and Oliver White shot 68 on Friday to extend their lead from one shot to six shots at the renowned East Course of Oak Hill Country Club.

Tim Spitz and Wade Sarkis have moved into sole possession of second place with rounds of 69 and 71. In second place after the first round were Don Padgett III and Adam Thomarios of Ohio, though they fell out of the top-15 with a 79 on in the second round.

Defending champions Dave Poteet and Mike Cromer shot an even-par 70 on Thursday and followed that up with a 72 on Friday. They are currently tied for fith place and sit eight shots behind Palladino and White.

In the Senior division, Brian Harris and Gary Van Sickle hold a slim one stroke lead at 142 over Doug Ritter and Russell Olson.

Harris and Van Sickle shot the low round of the day for the seniors — a 69 — after shooting 73 on Thursday.

Opening-round co-leaders Dick Hogan and Mark Wagner, after posting one-under 70 on Thursday, shot 77 on Friday and missed the eight-team cut by one shot.

Keith Holmes and Gay McMichael, who also shot one-under 70 in the first round, shot 75 to be in a tie for fourth and make the cut.

The seniors are also playing the East Course, but as a par 71. The nine teams that made the cut are all within four shots of the leaders.

Two holes in one were made on the in Thursday's round — both on the third hole, which played 200 yards. Chris Sekella of Naperville, Ill. made his shot in the morning round while Andrew Kay of Pittsford, N.Y. made his in the afternoon wave.

The East Course at Oak Hill has hosted six USGA events, most recently the 1998 U.S. Amateur. It has also hosted a Ryder Cup (1995) and three PGA Championships. Jason Dufner captured his first major, winning the PGA at Oak Hill in 2013.

The field was cut on Friday to 30 and ties for the Mid-Amateur division and 8 and ties in the Senior division.

ABOUT THE John R. Williams Invitational

54-hole two man best ball format. By invitation only. Entrants must have a handicap of 3.4 or less, with the team total not to exceed 5.5. Both members of teams in the Senior Division must be 55 years of age by the first day of the tournament. Senior index requirements are 4.4 individual and 7.2 team.
