Maclaren claims Ladies British Stroke Play title
CARMARTHENSHIRE, U.K. (August 22, 2014) — After 72 holes of intense British golf, Meghan Maclaren claimed victory at the Ladies British Stroke Play Championship on Friday.

The field played 36 holes on the final day, and the Florida International University junior shot 139 on the day to capture the Nicholls Trophy by a single stroke.

2012 champion Sarah-Jane Boyd finished in second place after a closing 73, while the leader over the first 3 rounds, Olivia Winning, slumped to an afternoon 78 to finish tied third with Alexandra Peters and Chloe Williams.

The R&A has retired this event after its final playing in 2017. The event, first played in 1969, is traditionally contested at the end of the summer season. Officials cited a crowded competition calendar as part of the impetus to retire the event.
