Tennessee Match Play: Brendon Caballero leads with 64
From the Tennessee Golf Association
KNOXVILLE (July 24, 2014) -- Brendon Caballero of Brentwood, TN has taken a three stroke lead into Friday’s second round of the Tennessee Match Play Championship hosted by Holston Hills Golf Club in Knoxville, TN. Caballero would get off to a hot start with birdies at the par-4 second hole and par-3 fourth hole. A slight hiccup at the par-5 fifth led Caballero to run off four straight birdies to close out Holston Hills’s front side. Upon making the turn Caballero would card six straight pars then turn it on birdieing holes sixteen, seventeen, and eighteen. Caballero’s 31-33-64 gives the UT-Martin senior a three shot lead over Michael Monroe (U of Tennessee) and Payne Denman (Middle TN State).
Round Two will conclude Friday with the sixteen man match play bracket beginning Saturday morning.
The real fireworks came from Ron Waters of Alcoa, TN who landed a rare albatross at the par-5 seventh hole. Waters would capitalize on the great shot with a 2-under par 34 on Holston Hills’s front nine then continue the stellar play carding a clean back nine for a 34-33-67 total to lead the Tennessee Senior Match Play Championship by a stroke over Tony Green of Kingsport.
Round Two will conclude Friday with the eight man senior match play bracket beginning Saturday morning.
