GREENVILLE, S.C. (July 20, 2014) -- When the
idea
for the Chanticleer National Four-Ball was
conceived, it was
immediately decided that the project wouldn’t
just
become yet another amateur four-ball event.
And, leading into the inaugural event, it
appears the
committee is well on its way to achieving that
most
important of
goals.
Scheduled for Oct. 24-26 at the Chanticleer
Course
at Greenville Country Club in Greenville, S.C.,
the
Chanticleer
National Four-Ball strives to be among the
most
prestigious amateur championships in the
nation.
The event will provide
50 top amateur teams striving to compete in
the
USGA Four-Ball with the opportunity to see
how
they can compete
against an elite field.

With the flurry of interest and buzz surrounding
the
upcoming USGA-run U.S. Amateur Four-Ball
Championships, the group
behind the Chanticleer -- which includes
Greenville
Country Club head professional Eric Pedersen,
club
professional Bo
Wicker and tournament directors Frank Wrenn
and
Will Dennis -- chose inaugural dates
accordingly to
provide interested
teams a chance to play together in a national-
level
event at a highly-renowned course before their
USGA qualifiers.
Moving forward, the event has set a goal to
simply
be one of the very best four-ball events the
nation’s
top players and
teams looks at as the format continues to
grow in
interest.
Perhaps more important to the success of the
event
than its timing is the host course.
The Chanticleer Course at Greenville Country
Club,
home to tour players Bill Haas, Lucas Glover,
and
Ben Martin, was
specifically chosen for the National Four-Ball as
it
provides a perfect setup for the team format
and
truly rewards high-
risk shots typical of four-ball play.
"The old school feel of the golf course is
something
that makes it fun to play,” said Haas, a PGA
Tour
winner and FedEx
Cup champion. “Many of the holes have
challenging
tee shots where you have to move it both left
to
right and right to
left.
“The greens are always the best bent grass
greens
in the southeast, including the tour courses we
play
nearby."
Designed by Robert Trent Jones and opened in
1970,
the Chanticleer Course is among the top
courses in
the state of
South Carolina and in the 10-year rotation to
host
the South Carolina State Amateur -- which it
hosted
in early July.
“It is one of the very best courses my dad
ever
designed” explained Rees Jones.
The setup and quality of the course is, indeed,
a big
draw for the high-level amateurs competing in
the
event but golf
isn’t all the Greenville, S.C. area offers.
Greenville’s
vibrant downtown area has been showcased in

Additionally, the tournament committee will
host
teams chosen from the field of entrants to a
very
special cocktail party
kick off on Friday night as well as breakfast
and
lunch on Saturday and Sunday, all of which is
included in the entry fee.
After the first round, players have the option
to
hang out at the club for the afternoon and
evening
to watch football on
the big screens with their favorite beverage
and
plenty of food made to order.
The event is currently accepting registrations
with
the field to be chosen by the tournament
committee
based on
aggregate team handicap and the playing
record of
the team members. In addition to the
competition
against an elite
field, the tournament committee plans to also
host
optional tournaments within the tournament
such as
dog fights and
skins games to promote more fun and
excitement.

ABOUT THE Chanticleer National Four-Ball
The goal of the Chanticleer National Four-Ball is
to serve as one of the game's most prestigious and
competitive Four-Ball events. The event is held
annually at the Robert Trent Jones-designed
Chanticleer Course at Greenville Country Club and
it's
the perfect place to provide competitors a
challenging
layout that lends itself to risk-reward shotmaking.
This 36 hole tournament will be played at scratch.
The field of fifty teams will be
chosen based on strength of resume and date of
