Australia's Ruffels wins Callaway Junior World Championship

LA JOLLA, Calif. (July 18, 2014) -- Ryan Ruffels of Australia fired a final-round 69 to storm back and win the 2014 Callaway Junior World Golf championship at Torrey Pines.

Playing the South Course, Ruffels carded rounds of 70-77 over the first two days of action before closing with a 67-69 effort. His final round was tied for the best of the day and was just enough to keep distance from second-place finisher Chun An Yu of Taiwan, who whot 69-74-71-71.

Gordon Neale, a past competitor on the AmateurGolf.com Tour, shot 71-73-69-73 to take solo third place.

In the Girls 15-17 Division, Lou Daniella Uy shot 71-69-72-68 before beating China's Ziyi Wang in a playoff for the title.

Other flight winners included: Taiga Sugihara (Boys 13-14), Karl Vilips (Boys 11-12), Paphangkorn Tavatanakit (Girls 13-14), who won by an impressive 13 shots, and Karah Sanford (Girls 11-12).

The Junior World Golf Championships is truly unique with a total field size exceeding 1000 golfers and representing an impressive number of countries and states. Many Junior World champions have gone on to enjoy successful careers on the PGA and LPGA Tours, including Amy Alcott, Notah Begay, Brandie Burton, John Cook, Dorothy Delasin, Ernie Els, Phil Mickelson, Corey Pavin, Pat Perez, Joan Pitcock, Nick Price, Kim Shipman, Craig Stadler, David Toms and Tiger Woods.

Age Divisions: 15-17, 13-14, 11-12, 9-10, 7-8, 6-under. 72 hole stroke play event for 15-17 division, 54 holes for other divisions. Qualifying required for 15-17, other divisions. Played at multiple courses in the San Diego area. Online application process begins approx. Feb 1.
