Woodburn, Ore. (June 20, 2014) – The
Championship finals are all set for the
105th Oregon
Amateur Championship. Austin Landis and
Thomas Lim will play for the men’s
championship,
while Gigi Stoll and Monica Vaughn will play
for the women’s title.
The final matches will start at 8 AM and
8:15 AM tomorrow, Saturday, June 21st at
the
OGA Golf Course in Woodburn, Ore. With
both matches being 36 holes, the second 18
will
start at approximately 12:30 PM and 12:45
PM.
Landis (Gladstone, Ore.) and Lim
(Moorpark, Calif.) will be competing for the
men’s title.
Landis, who earned medalist honors at the
2010 OSAA 4A High School Boys
Championship,
played two extremely competitive matches
to make his way to the Championship final.
In
the quarterfinals, Landis was up by as much
as three on the front nine against Taylor
Schmidt (Boise, Idaho). However, Schmidt
fought back to get within one heading into
the
18th hole. Landis made a three-foot putt to
clinch his spot in the semifinals.
Against Clayton Madey (West Linn, Ore.) in
the semifinals, Landis got off to a fast
start, as
he was two-up through three holes. The
match was all square until Landis moved
one up
after a par on the 15th hole. Landis and
Madey would both par out, and Landis
moved on to
the Championship finals.
Lim is back in the Championship finals for a
second consecutive year. In the
quarterfinals,
Lim defeated his college teammate at the
University of Oregon, Sulman Raza
(Eugene, Ore.)
5 and 4. In the semifinals, Lim played
Oregon State golfer Brian Jung (Corvallis,
Ore.), who
earlier that day also played a teammate of
his, Brett Johnson (Vancouver, Wash.), and
won
3 and 1. When Lim and Jung played in the
afternoon, Lim started to pull ahead on the
back
nine. As the match was all square through
10 holes, Lim birdied two of the next four
holes,
and moved on after a 3 and 2 victory.
Stoll (Tigard, Ore.) and Vaughn (Reedsport,
Ore.) will play each other for the Oregon
Women’s Amateur Championship. Stoll, the
soon-to-be senior at Beaverton High
School,
defeated Rosie Cook (Bend, Ore.) 6 and 4
in the quarterfinals. In the semifinals, Stoll
played
defending champion Kendall Prince
(Wilsonville, Ore.) in the longest match of
the day.
Neither competitor was up by more than
one all match, and the two were even after
18
holes. On the 21st hole, Stoll birdied the
par-3 third hole to clinch her spot in the
Championship match for the second
consecutive year.
Vaughn, who plays collegiate golf at Arizona
State University, beat Brenna Murphy
(Corvallis, Ore.) in the quarters, 4 and 2. In
the semifinals, Vaughn played Sunshine
Powers
(Portland, Ore.), who plays at Concordia
University in Portland. Powers was up by
two after
six holes, and held her lead until the 14th
hole, when Vaughn pulled ahead after a par
on
the par-5 14th. Vaughn, the 2010 Oregon
Women’s Amateur champion, won the
match with
a par on the 17th hole, 2 and 1.
The OGA Golf Course is playing 6,531 yards
with a slope and rating of 72.0/141 for the
men
and 5,938 yards with a slope and rating of
75.3/141 for the women.
The OGA Golf Course last hosted the
Oregon Amateur Championship in 2003 and
each year
hosts numerous OGA, Oregon Junior Golf,
Collegiate & High School tournaments.

ABOUT THE Oregon Amateur
Entries are open to male amateur
golfers with USGA Handicap indexes of 5.0 or
less for men, and 15.0 or less for women, who are
members in good standing of an OGA
member
club. For men, the low 64 finishers from the first two
rounds of
stroke play will advance to
single elimination match play. For women, the low
32
finishers from the first two rounds of
stroke play will advance to
single elimination match play.
