PACIFIC GROVE, California (March 1, 2014) -- Each year the leading teams make Pacific Grove Golf Links look easy, but the rest of the field will tell you that despite its length of 5732 yards, you've still got to hole putts to make birdies.

That tends to be a lot easier when throwing darts at the flags on the postage stamp greens, with positions in high spots due to the potential for rain today. Jerry Ledzinski and Jeff Britton of Carmel, starting on the 5th hole, recorded a par before rolling to 5-straight birdies on their way to a 9-under 61 that leads the team of brothers Andrew and Austin Roberts of Carmichael by a single shot. Three teams are 3 back at 64.

Stevinson Ranch owner George Kelley and Amateurgolf.com founder Pete Wlodkowski - longtime friends with a common golf business connection -- fired off a nice ham and egg round of 63 with Kelley recording the highlight, a birdie on the 218 yard 9th hole. George Erbez and Tony McBroom, playing alongside the leaders, fired a solid 65 that included an eagle two from Erbez on the 4th hole -- his pitch shot was leaning against the flag and just needed a simple wiggle to make it official. Also at 65 are defending champs Frank Pieper and Neil Duffy, as well as Terry Foreman and Mark Hill.

In the net division, one of Amateurgolf.com's most loyal players, dentist Charles Balisha of Turlock, partnered with Brandon Murphy to record an 8-under 62 and lead often-decorated net player Vincent Steele and Rob Vieira and Glenn Lee and Wes Tom by a single shot.

With so many teams in the hunt, and the worst of the weather hopefully behind us, there should be plenty of excitement tomorrow for the final round at the "poor man's Pebble Beach."
