PNGA Sr. Men's Amateur: Spooner leads early
VANCOUVER (June 11, 2013) -- Marine Drive Golf Club in Vancouver, B.C. hosts the 49th Pacific Northwest Senior Men’s Amateur Championship.
In Round 1 on Tuesday, Mark Spooner shot 1-under to take a one-shot lead into the second day of action.
Spponer, of West Vancouver, B.C., is one shot ahead of John Gallacher and Noel Pumfrey, who went even par 72 on Tuesday.
Norm Bradley and Jim McNelis were both 1-over and will start Round 2 in a tie for fourth place.
The three-day championship includes many of the region’s top senior amateur golfers. The 4th Pacific Northwest Super Senior Men’s Amateur Championship is held concurrently at Marine Drive.
There are 78 players competing in the Senior Amateur Championship while 36 players compete in the Super Senior Championship.
ABOUT THE PNGA Senior Amateur
Format: 54-hole Stroke Play Competition for seniors
and super seniors with the following
divisions:
Senior Championship (55+) – Contestants entering
in the Senior Championship will
compete in individual competition only (gross only)
and will play from a separate set of
tees, at a longer yardage.
Open Division (55+) – Contestants entering the
Open Division will compete in an
individual and a four-ball partnership competition
(gross and net) and will compete from a
shorter yardage. Players will be divided into flights
according to age for individual
competition only.
Super Senior Championship (65+) – Contestants
entering in the Super Senior
Championship will compete in individual competition
only (gross only) and will play from a
separate set of tees, at a slightly shorter yardage.
