Colby Harwell has played well at the Carlton Woods Invitational in the past. He saved his best playing for the final round of this year's event, though.

Harwell charged from the back of the pack with the low round of the final day to claim the 8th Annual Carlton Woods Invitational in a playoff over 2nd-round leader Randy Lance.

Harwell carded a beautiful 2-under 70 to come from three shots down on the back nine. Lance was solid throughout the day, and had his winning putt on No. 18 narrowly lip out.

Robert Funk and Nicolas Cristea just missed the playoff when both players made bogey on the last hole.

In the Senior Division, Mike Booker opened the final round looking for his 3rd consecutive championship, but Doug Pool had one too many answers for him.

Pool carded three birdies on the back nine to surge into the lead, but a bogey on hole 18 dropped him into a playoff with Booker.

After one playoff hole wasn’t enough, the two players headed back to the tee again. Booker just missed the green to the right and was not able to get up and down while Pool hit two solid shots and tapped in for par to win his first CWI.

The inaugural Hullender Trophy, named after legendary Senior Amateur Bob Hullender, was raised high for the first time by Pool.

WARDLE/MATAGRANO WIN AMATEURGOLF.COM TWO-MAN LINKS TITLE

A perfect week of golf came to a close on Wednesday with the two teams leading the championship division coming down the stretch dead even heading into the par-5 18th at Bandon Dunes.

Greg Wardle and Andrew Matagrano were on fire, but Ben Hargis and partner Trey Coker were hanging on. With Wardle -- after hitting driver off the deck onto the green in two -- in position for his third straight birdie, Hargis holed a 40 foot birdie putt, then pranced around the green like Hale Irwin at the 1990 US Open at Medinah.

Wardle two putted.

The teams headed to No. 10, where Matagrano made a 10 foot birdie as Hargis' shorter birdie attempt slid by.

Sherman Haggerty and Ben Whipple took their third senior title while longtime participants Dieter Dammeier and Chris Lawton won the net division cruising to victory at 30-under 255.

On top of the four rounds, the Dixie is making an effort to simplify the tournament experience as well as making it more economical for participants by introducing an All-Inclusive Tournament Package.

Saladino, seeded No. 2 after stroke-play qualifying, defeated Mark Reilly 2-and-1 to reach the final match.

Barnett moved on when top-seeded Hal Berman withdrew.

WES GATES WINS HORTON SMITH INVITATIONAL
