Coker, Hargis jump into lead at AGC Two Man Links
- leading the Two Man Links Championship

BANDON, Oregon (May 6, 2013) -- Trey Coker and Ben Hargis fired 6-under 65 at Pacific Dunes to take the overall lead at the halfway point of the amateurgolf.com Two Man Links Championship.

On a nearly perfect day that always has locals declaring it a one of the best five days of the year -- we think they say that so nobody moves here -- Coker and Hargis did what you would expect from a pair of accomplished mid-amateurs. (Coker, a State Farm agent, was the leading money winner on the Hooters Tour before regaining his amateur status; Hargis has played in four USGA events.)

Hargis, a real estate appraiser, described a great par save that kept the pair's solid round going on the tricky par-4 16th.

"Trey was caught up in one of the nasty mounds on the right, and punched a 7 iron that ran through the green and onto a walking path. He got up and down for a great par."

Chasing down Coker and Hargis, who are at 5-under 137, is the Northern California team of Christopher Rose and Al Longfield. Coming off a 71 at Old Macdonald, Rose and Longfield posted 70 at Pacific Dunes to stand 4 back at 141.

Perennial Senior Division favorites Sherman Haggerty and Ben Whipple grabbed the lead with a 5-under 66. The El Dorado Hills, Calif. pair won the Senior title in 2009 and 2010 and will be tough to beat if Haggerty keeps shooting under par, like he did today.

On No. 13, he hit his approach to within inches, (a shot-of-the-day contender for sure) and on No. 18 the team finished with a birdie to enter Tuesday's third round at Bandon Trails with high hopes.

Haggerty and Whipple stand at 2-over 144, while Bobby Forster and Stephen Friend, from Orange County, Calif. are tied with Bryan Lynn and Greg Lockard of Bakersfield at 148. The Lynn/Lockard team showed what's great about best-ball golf by hanging in there after a front nine of 41 and posting 31 on the back. You never know!

There were lots of low numbers in the Net Division, but none lower than that of Sunday ace-maker, and huge San Francisco Giants fan Steven Bobus (Old Mac, No. 8) and his partner Ed Ruiz. They posted a 11-under round of 60 to move into second place at 132.

Chris Lawton and Dieter Dammeier hold the Net Division lead at 128 after holding on with both hands on No. 18 and posting 61. Here's how they made par:

Lawton went right (not good) and Dammeier went left (humongous bunker, and gorse, even worse) and both had to hit provisional. Dammeier, an attorney, negotiated a punch out and then hit five wood to 170 yards out as his partner coached him "just keep hitting 9-irons and let's take double." Having none of that, Dammeier hit a 5-iron to eight feet and made that putt.

That's how ham-and-egg works.

Tuesday's third round will be contested at the always challenging Bandon Trails, the third of the four main courses to open at Bandon Dunes Resort designed by Bill Coore and Ben Crenshaw.
