Calif. Women's Am: Yin, Cathrea to play for title
CARMEL, Calif. (Nov. 9, 2012) -- Angel Yin of Arcadia, the 2010 Champion, see-sawed her way through the semi-final match against Callista Ringsby of Colorado, to reach the final round. Tied at the turn, Ringsby birdied 11 to go 1-up, but gave it back on 13 with a bogey. Yin claimed 14 with a birdie, then lost 15 with a bogey. Yin won the tough 17th with a par. Both parred 18 giving Yin a narrow 1-up victory. Her barrage of 5 birdies defeated Yoonhee Kim of San Ramon 7&6 in the quarters.

Finalist Casie Cathrea of Livermore, the 2009 Champion, fought off Renata Young of Antioch, coming back from a 3-down deficit after 5 holes, to win 2up on 18. She fired back-to-back birdies on 6 and 7 only to lose one to Young's 50 foot birdie putt on 9. Young found the hazard on 10 to lose a notch. After halving the next 2 holes, Young slipped in a bogey on 13 to square the match. Renata took 15 with a par when Cathrea's overly aggressive third shot flew into the hazard. Young proceeded to bogey 16,17 and 18 to hand Cathrea the victory.

"It's awesome to make the final again. I really want to win it again before I go off to college." In her morning quarter final match, Cathrea downed Lucy Li of Redwood Shores by a margin of 5 & 3, posting 3 birdies on the front nine and holding par on the back. Cathrea will have to get by Yin in a 36 hole showdown to make her dream come true. They will tee it up at 8am in the 46th Annual Californina Women's Amateur Championship at Quail Lodge GC. Spectators are welcomed.
