KEPERRA, Australia (Oct. 19, 2012) -- Brady Watt (Royal Perth Golf Club) has won the 2012 Keperra Bowl at the Keperra Golf Club. It was Watt’s consistency all week which secured this year’s Championship and his first major win on the National Amateur golfing calendar.

Watt’s opened this year’s event with consecutive rounds of three-under par (69). He followed this up with a brilliant eight-under par (64) in the third round. A final round of six-under par (66) gave Watt a four round total of 268(-20).

Joint overnight leader James Gibellini (Emerald lakes) slipped back early in the final round after recording an opening bogie on the first hole. Gibellini did recover with a birdie, however a triple on the 11th hole and a further three bogies ended his campaign, eventually finishing in a tie for 8th.

Indooroopilly member Viraat Badhwar opened his final round with a birdie on the first hole, which was one of six birdies on the last day. A late double bogey on the 17th hole led to Badhwar finishing with a three-under par (69). This joined his first three day scores of 68, 69, 67 to finish on 273, five shots back from Watt.

First round leader Brett Drewitt (Long Reef Golf Club) finished on 274 one shot back from Badhwar in outright third. Drewitt’s final round score of four-under par (68) was enough to elevate him into the final three placing’s. Drewitt shot a one-over par (73) in the second round and six-under par (66) in the third round.

Cameron Smith (Royal Queensland) made an early charge on the final day with four birdies in the opening seven holes. Smith momentum was impeded when he made bogey on the par five 9th, finishing with a four-under par (68) to place himself in outright fourth.

Jordon Zunic (Bonnie Doon) equaled the course record on the second day firing a nine under par 63.

Throughout the week players experience perfect conditions with the Keperra Country Golf Club layout proving again to be a fantastic Championship facility. The course was presented in outstanding condition with full credit going to the superintendent and his staff.

The majority of the field from this year’s championship will now travel down to the Gold Coast to compete in the 2012 Queensland Men’s Stroke Play Championship at the Southport Golf Club- Sunday 21- Tuesday 23 October.
