New Jersey Open: Ams invade leader board
BRIELLE, N.J. (July 11, 2012) -- Amateur Benjamin Smith from Little Mill Country Club leads the 92nd playing of the New Jersey Open Championship at 6-under after two rounds.
Fellow amateur Niall Handley of Essex Fells Country Club is tied for second at 4-under while Brandon Dalinka, also an amateur, is alone in fourth place at 3-under.
Smith fired a first-round 4-under 68 to pace the field and followed it up in the second round with a 2-under 70 at Manasquan River Golf Club.
Handley shot consecutive rounds of 70 while Dalinka followed up his first-round 69 with an even par 72 in Round 2.
All told, there are eight amateurs in the top 20 spots on the leader board heading into Thursday's final round.

54-hole stroke play event for professional and
amateur
male golfers. Qualifying is required for those who do
not meet the exemption criteria. A cut will be made
to
the low 50 and ties after the 2nd round.
