Higham and Baxter lead PNGA Amateur
WALLA WALLA, Wash. (July 10, 2012) -- Tanner Higham of Shelley, Idaho and Jonny Baxter of Pleasanton, Calif. share the lead after the first round of stroke play qualifying at the 111th Pacific Northwest Men's Amateur Championship at Wine Valley Golf Club in Walla Walla, Wash. Higham and Baxter each posted rounds of 5-under-par 67 on the challenging links-style layout, setting themselves up perfectly for a chance to earn qualifying spots into the match-play portion of the championship, which commences Wednesday morning. The field of 168 will be cut to 64 once the second round of stroke play qualifying concludes. Stay tuned on this site for live scoring and second round pairings.
ABOUT THE Pacific Northwest Amateur

First held in 1899, the Pacific Northwest Men’s Amateur is one of the country’s longest running amateur championships. Held annually at world-class courses throughout the Pacific Northwest, this championship is played in the same format as the U.S. Amateur and features an impressive list of past champions that include; Nick Flanagan, Ben Crane, Jeff Quinney, Bill Sander, and Tiger Woods. Eligibility is open to members of the Pacific Northwest Golf Association and top amateurs throughout the world invited via Presidential Invitation. Each year’s champion earns a hosted exemption in to the Pacific Coast Amateur and Sahalee Players Championship. Non-PNGA members seeking a Presidential Invitation must submit a resume to the PNGA.
