Firecracker Open: Rust withstands low-scoring contenders
AUSTIN, Texas (July 1, 2012) -- Dillon Rust fired a final-round 66 to hold off a late charge by Stratton Nolen and a host of other runners-up to win the hotly-contested 2012 Firecracker Open at Lions Municipal Golf Course.
Rust was among the leaders after Friday's first round and found a way to separate himself from the pack Saturday with a second-round 67. His final-round 66 put him four shots better than Stratton and Steffan Schmieding, who both tied for second place with terrific weekends.
Tied for fourth place were Alex Ellis, Kody King --- who shot 63 on Saturday ---, Joshua Mathis and Michael Smith.
