Hayes takes control at Trans-Miss Senior at La Jolla Country Club
LA JOLLA, Calif. (May 23, 2012) -- Kevin Hayes continues to lead the 2012 Trans-Mississippi Senior Championship at La Jolla Country Club, following a second-round 3-under par 69.
Hayes, a member at La Jolla CC, holds a seven-shot lead going into the final round on Thursday, May 24.
The second Trans-Mississippi Golf Assoc. Senior Championship, and first to be conducted under the stroke play format, is Hayes’ to lose. Hayes had four front-nine birdies and birdied his final two holes Wednesday.
Laguna Niguel, Calif.’s Kemp Richardson carded a second-round 75 and stands alone in second place. Three more players are another shot back at 5-over 149, including four-time Trans champion Chris Maletis of Portland, Ore.
Michael Mahoney of Scottsdale, Ariz., also a La Jolla CC member, saw his three-shot lead after the opening round balloon to eight in the super senior division after a second-round 75 Wednesday.

The championship will be contested over 54 holes
of individual stroke play with three divisions:
Senior
(55+, max
handicap 6.0), Super Senior
(65+, max handicap 10.0) and Legends (70+, max
handicap
12.0).

member

Trans-Mississippi Golf Association member
club
(players may make an individual contribution of
$100
minimum to the Turf Scholarship Fund as part of the
entry process, in lieu of club membership).
