Occi, Morris win Middle Atlantic Senior Four-Ball
ALEXANDRIA, Virg. (May 16, 2012) -- Fresh off a victory with Ben Clements in the Senior Division of the famed Belle Haven Four-Ball, Mike Occi joined three-time Maryland Senior Amateur champion Bob Morris to claim the Middle Atlantic Senior Four-Ball title at Belle Haven Country Club on Tuesday, May 15. Occi also won a Maryland Senior at Chartwell in 2010.
In second place were Tom Grady (Shenandoah Valley) and Mike Nicewarner (Springfield) with four-under par 68, followed by four teams at 69: Tim Vigotsky (RTJ) and Fred Glumsic (Chantilly), Burke Hayes (Chevy Chase) and Henry Blue (Green Spring), defending champions Marty West (Columbia) and Malcolm Bund (UMD) and Drew DeVan (Maryland Golf) and Frank Pastore (Mountain Branch).
George Washburn and Donnie Blanks (both Holly Hills) and former champions Jim Castagna (Manor) and Joe Records (BCC) returned scores of two-under par 70.
Morris started the team's spectacular round with birdie at the short par four Number One and Occi birdied the short par four Number Six with the team turning in two-under 34. The team roared home with Morris birdies on 13 and 15 plus Occi birdies on 10, 12, 14 and 18 for a 30 on the back nine.
In the Super Senior competition, Jack Vardaman (Congressional) and Michael Sanger (Green Spring) took the crystal with a one-under 71.
