Jerry Rose takes the Brooksville Winter Series

BROOKSVILLE, Fla. (Mar. 6, 2012) -- Jerry Rose captured the final Winter Series event run by the Florida State Golf Association at Brooksville Country Club in Brooksville, March 5-6. He was joined in the winner’s circle by Bill Moore and John Begley who won the Senior and Super Senior divisions respectively.

Jerry Rose, of Sarasota, went wire-to-wire in the Regular Division to win by five strokes. After carding an even par round of 72 in the first round, Rose would take a two stroke lead heading into the final round. Rose continued his solid play in the final round posting a two-under par 70 to capture the title with a tournament total of two-under par 142. Peter Navaretta, of Port Saint Lucie, finished in second place with a tournament total of three-over par 147. Navaretta also captured the (40-54) Winter Series Points Championship with 535 points, and earned an exemption into the 95th Amateur Championship being held at The Bear’s Club and The Loxahatchee Club in June. Pete DeLongchamp, of Sebring, and Howard Logan, of Naples, finished tied for third place with a tournament total of 149.

Bill Moore, of Tampa, grabbed first place honors in the Senior Division for his second victory of the season. In the first round, Moore carded the low round of the tournament with a five-under par 67 and followed up a two-over par 74, for a tournament total of 141. Kim Schwencke, of Temple Terrace, finished alone in second place after rounds of 73-69 for a tournament total of two-under par 142. Jim Stone, of Bradenton, finished in third after rounds of 70-75. Gordon Blakeley, of Lutz, captured the (55-64) Winter Series Points Championship with 485 points. By winning the Points Championship, Blakeley punched his ticket to the 31st Mid-Amateur Championship held at John’s Island West, in Vero Beach.

John Begley, of Sarasota, overcame a two stroke deficit to capture the Super Senior Division. Begley fired rounds of 78-75 for a tournament total of 153, which was good enough for a one stroke victory. Max Mathews, of Andalusia, AL, grabbed second place with a tournament total of 154. Tom Austin, of Lake Wales, finished alone in third place after rounds of 77-78. Austin also captured the (65 & Over) Winter Series Points Championship earning 365 points for the season.
