Jones/Doherty: Defending champs Charley Hull and Mary Jane Hiestand advance to quarterfinals

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla (Jan. 18, 2012) -- Defending champion Charley Hull of England is on her way to another win at the Jones/Doherty Women's Amateur. In her first match Hull defeated Sami Stewart of Carson City, NV 6 & 5. She went on to defeat Emily Gimpel of Lafayette Hill, PA 3 & 2 in her second match.

Hull, who just two weeks ago won the Harder Hall, will meet three time Women's Mid-Amateur champion, Megan Stasi in Thursday's quarterfinal match.

Number two seed, Kailey Walsh of Boca Raton, FL who shot a 69 in the qualifying, advanced to the quarterfinals with 1-up victories over Lena Weichselgartner of Gainesville, FL and Paloma Nunez of Granbury, TX. Walsh will meet Alex Stewart of Carson City, NV in the quarterfinals.

In the senior flight defending senior champion Mary Jane Hiestand of Naples, FL advanced with a 6 & 5 win over Clate Aydlett of Elizabeth City, NC and a 4 & 3 win over Connie Shorb of York, PA. Heistand will meet 2007 USGA Senior Women's Champion Anna Schlutz in the quarterfinals.

Another great match-up in the quarterfinals will be 2011 USGA Senior Women's Amateur semifinalist Lisa Schlesinger of Laytonsville, MD against two-time USGA Senior Women's Amateur champion, Diane Lang of Weston, FL. The two just battled at the Dixie Senior Women's Amateur a few weeks ago. Lang edged Schlesinger by two strokes to win her third straight Dixie championship.
