SCGA Four-Ball: Patel, Shah roll to win

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (Nov. 15, 2011) -- Bhavik Patel and Manav Shah fired a second-round 65 and ran away with a five-shot victory at the 21st Southern California Four-Ball Championship.

Patel and Shah, both of Bakersfield, led by two shots following a first-round 62 and powered ahead of the competition in Tuesday's final round.

Bakersfield's D.J. Fernando and Greg Lopez of Irvine made a valiant effort in the final round with a 9-under 63 but finished five shots back in second place.

Joshua Hurst and Tyler Paul, both of Costa Mesa, finished at 8-under.

The 21st edition of the SCGA Four-Ball Championship made its first venture into Kern County as Bakersfield CC hosted the SCGA’s top amateur players. A field of 104 players competed in 36 holes of four-ball stroke play Monday and Tuesday.

For the first time in years, the field was wide open, as the defending champs did not return to the competition.

ABOUT THE SCGA Four-Ball

This event is open to members with handicap indexes of 6.4 and below. Players will compete over 18 holes of qualifying four-ball stroke play to determine the 52 teams which advance to the championship. The Championship is conducted over 36 holes of stroke play.
