Calif.Women's Amateur: Down to the quarterfinals
CARMEL, Calif. (Nov. 4, 2011) -- Stroke play medalist Kimberley Lorenzana advanced with a 7 & 6 victory over Sally Tomlinson of Walnut Creek and a 3 & 2 win over Tiffany Kuroki of West Covina. Lorenzana will meet Regina De Guzman of Danville in tomorrow's quarterfinal match.
Number two seed Lauren Dobashi, last years runner-up, beat Kendall Dusenberry of Newhall 6 & 5 but lost to Wanasa Zhou of Beaumont 3 & 1.
Renata Young, first time player in the event, won her match against Heidi Ushijima of Hillsborough 2-up and her afternoon match against Xianmel Jin of Beaumont 4 & 3. Young will meet Elizabeth Wang of San Marino in the quarterfinals.
Sandy Woodruff, number 4 seed downed nine year old Lucy Li of Redwood Shores 2-up but lost her second match to Petra Cole of Santee 5 & 3.
Four time champion Lynne Cowan beat Alicia Binneboese of Carmel Valley 8 & 6 and then beat Layney Silva of Stockton by a close 2-up margin. Cowan will play #13 seed Petra Cole of Santee in tomorrow's quarterfinals.
Play will begin tomorrow at 8:00 am with the semifinals starting at 12:30.

The California Women’s Amateur Championship was
founded in 1967 and played at Pebble Beach Golf
Links until 1987 when the Championship was invited
to Quail Lodge & Golf Club in Carmel, where it was
played through 2019.
36-hole stroke play qualifying
round, 18 holes each day, to determine 32
players
for match play. Prizes will be awarded
to the Champion, Runner-up, Semifinalists,
Quarterfinalists
and the 36-hole Low Gross Medalist
from qualifying rounds.
