SALINAS, CALIF. (Oct. 24, 2011) -- Thomas Richardson, a 22-year-old from England and playing for the San Jose State golf team won the Championship Flight at the Salinas Valley Amateur in a playoff over Travis Breech with a score of 65-71--136. In the playoff, Breech slid his 15 foot birdie attempt just over the edge of the cup while Richardson knocked in a 20 foot birdie putt on the first playoff hole for the victory.

Richardson had a 2 shot lead after his 1st round 65 over local Salinas residents Gil Palma and Jay Burlison and Carmel's Jerry Ledzinski (who just finished as low am at the Monterey Open earlier in the week). After 27 holes, Richardson held a slim 1-shot lead over Ledzinski, but put his foot on the gas with birdies on holes No.10 and No.11 to open a 3 shot gap in his group. Richardson , however, struggled a bit in the last group, playing the last 4 holes in 2-over-par, while Salinas Fairways local ,Travis Breech was calmly shooting a 5-under-par 31 on the back nine to post an 8-under-par, 136.
