Joe Alfieri and Joseph Latowski earned co-medalist honors in the 30th Florida State Mid-Amateur Championship
PALM BEACH GARDENS, FL (Oct. 7, 2011) -- Joe Alfieri and Joseph Latowski earned co-medalist honors in the 30th Florida State Mid-Amateur Championship at Old Marsh Golf Club in Palm Beach Gardens. Joe Alfieri, of Lutz, looks to win his second Mid-Amateur Championship after earning the number one seed after rounds of 69-69 for a 36-hole total of six-under par 138. Joseph Latowski, of Port Saint Lucie, also fired a 36-hole total of six-under par 138, and will have the second seed entering the match play portion of the event. Other notable players earning one of the 32 coveted spots were, the Defending Champion Stephen Anderson, of Hobe Sound, and the 2005 Champion Jon Veneziano, of Mount Dora.

After 36-holes, seven players were tied at 152 and had to battle it out for the last five qualifying spots. Chris Boylan, from Lake Placid, David Czech, from Sanford, Frank Babusik, from Jupiter, Ross Beal, of Orlando, and Winston Ball, from Saint Pete Beach, seized the final spots in the play-off.

To be eligible for the State Mid-Amateur, participants must be 25 years of age or older as of October 6, 2011. More than 300 players attempted to qualify at one of nine sites in 18-holes of stroke play. In the Championship, participants will play 36 holes of individual stroke play; 18 each on Thursday, October 6th and Friday, October 7th to identify the low 32 for match play. The match play round of 32 will begin Friday afternoon and will end with the Championship match on Sunday afternoon.
