South of England Amateur: Walker Cupper Brown leads
TADWORTH, Surrey, England (Aug. 31, 2011) -- English Amateur Golf Champion Steven Brown from the Wentworth Club leads after round 1 of the 2011 South of England Open Amateur Golf Championship at Walton Heath Golf Club, England.
The GB&I Walker Cup team member, who was recently runner-up in the European Mens Amateur Individual Championship, carded a 66 to take a one stroke advantage into tomorrow's round two.
In tied second place on 67 are Simon Crockett from Addington Palace, Jerome Titlow of The London Club and Irishman Paul O'Kane from Moyola Park Golf Club.
Next best placed on 68 are Glen Portelli from Brocket Hall, Ryan Evans of Wellingborough Golf Club, Daan Huizing from The Netherlands and Will Shucksmith of Alwoodley Golf Club.
Defending champion Jack Senior of Heysham Golf Club, who recently reached the semi final stage of the U.S Amateur, must have withdrawn after being in the original draw.
