Maine Match Play: Low scores move to quarterfinals
MANCHESTER, Maine (Aug. 9, 2011) -- With perfect conditions, both on the golf course and from Mother Nature, many players went low in their matches at the Augusta Country Club. The greens were immaculate and this was reflected in the scoring. Red numbers were not at all umcommon.

In the last group of the day Mike O'Brian made the turn at two-under par only to find himself two down to Andrew Slattery, who carded an outward 31. Brian Bilodeau was five-under par when his match concluded on the 12th green. It took some fine play to advance out of the first round.

In all there were only two upsets out of the day's 16 matches, Andrew Slattery over Mike O'Brian and Chris Hamel over Curt Jordan. And surprisingly, only one of today's matches made it to the 18th hole, with Matt Greenleaf edging Scott Sirois in a one up victory.

Though the weather doesn't look as promising tomorrow, the championship will press on as the remaining 16 players will try to get through two matches to advance to Thursday's final.
