TEMECULA, Calif. (July 19, 2011) -- With temperatures in the high 90's the scores were a little higher in the second round of the California Women's Championship. Only one player was in the red today, that was first round leader Stephanie Arcala of Oceanside who followed her opening round 68 with a 2-under par 70. Arcala just finished her golf career at San Diego State.

Arcala had 16 pars and two birdies on her round today. Fellow competitor Marissa Mar of El Macero, said Arcala got up and down a lot and didn't make any big mistakes.

Mar, a Stanford player, followed her opening round 69 with a roller coaster round of even par 72. On her opening hole she hooked her tee shot out of bounds, failed to get up and down and ended with a double bogey. But she rallied back on the rest of her round with 6 birdies on holes 3, 5, 6, 8, 15 and 18. Throw in a couple 3-putts and she's back to even. Not bad on her second time playing in the event.

When asked about her strategy for the final round tomorrow, Mar said "I'm going to play aggressively and go for the win. I'm not here to finish second."

Ellen Krauss and Devon Brown both followed up their first round 70's with 73's and are tied for third at 143. Courtney Soekland sits alone at 144 with a pair of 72's. Danielle Gallaspy and Stephanie Yocum are tied at 146.

Past champion, Sharon Park followed her opening round 77 with an even par 72 and moved up the leader board to tied for 9th. She had a solid round with three birdies and three bogeys and managed to not get into too much trouble.

2006 champion Sandy Woodruff bettered her opening round 81 with a 74 today. She shot 2-under par on the back nine.

Wednesday's final round starts at 8:00 a.m.
