British Columbia Am: Rose wins
Kamloops, B.C., Canada (July 15, 2011) -- David Rose, of West Vancouver, fired a final round 2-under-par 70 to win the 109th BC Amateur Championship at The Dunes at Kamloops in Kamloops, BC.

Rose, 22, had a hot putter all day which helped him make five birdies to counteract three bogeys to finish the tournament at 13-under-par 275.

“The win hasn’t really sunk in yet,” said Rose, who played his college golf at Lynn University in Southern Florida. “I’m a little surprised because Richard (Jung) was playing great heading into today. I hit a lot of greens out there and I was putting really well and that’s what won it for me.”

“This is the biggest win of my career,” added Rose. “It’s overwhelming to have my name on the same trophy as guys like Doug Roxburgh and Fred Couples.”

Richard Jung, of Toronto, ON, began the final round leading by four strokes but struggled with his putter all day. He only managed two birdies while carding five bogeys and a double bogey to finish the round at 5-over-par 77 to put him in a two-way tie for second place with Kevin Carrigan, of Victoria, at 10-under-par 278.

“My putting is what got me today,” said Jung, who will be attempting to qualify for the RBC Canadian Open on Monday. “To be honest I’m not happy at all with second place since first was right in front of me. This is a learning process and I’m going to work on polishing up my putting and concentrate on Monday.”

Finishing in fourth place at 9-under-par 279 was Brent Wilson, of Victoria, and in a tie for fifth place was Justin Shin, of Pitt Meadows, and Cory Renfrew, of Victoria, at 8-under-par 280.

The Canadian Men’s Amateur Championship will be held August 9-14, 2011, at Niakwa Country Club and Elmhurst Golf & CC, in Winnipeg, MB. Representing BC in the Interprovincial Team Championship will be Rose, Carrigan and Wilson.
