Toronto's Richard Jung remains atop the leaderboard at the BC Amateur after a 7-under 65 in third round

Kamloops, BC (July 14, 2011) -- Richard Jung, of Toronto, ON, remains in the lead at the 109th BC Amateur Championship at The Dunes at Kamloops in Kamloops, BC, after firing a 7-under-par 65. Jung, 18, had an impressive round beginning the day with five straight birdies before carding his only bogey of the day on the par-5 6th hole. He managed to scramble out of trouble on holes 7, 8 and 9 by relying on his short game and then put up three more birdies on the back nine to sit at 15-under-par 201 for the tournament. "All week I've said my plan is to hit fairways and greens and I'm not going to change that game plan now," said Jung, the 2010 Canadian Junior Boys' Champion who received a Presidential Exemption to play in the BC Amateur. "Tomorrow I'm going to be aggressive when I need to be and back off when I have to." Matching Jung's 65 was David Rose, of West Vancouver, who, after making the turn at 1-under-par, fired off six birdies on the back nine to move into second place on the leaderboard at 11-under-par 205. "I've been playing well lately and today I hit a lot of greens and made some good putts," said Rose, who began the day in a tie for 6th place. "I knew the other guys behind me were playing well so I just tried to stay focused." In third place at 10-under-par 206 is Kevin Carrigan, of Victoria, followed in fourth by Craig Doell, of Victoria, at 7-under-par 209, and rounding out the top five is 2006 BC Amateur Champion Bryan Toth, of Victoria, at 5-under-par 211. The final round will tee-off beginning at 7:00 a.m. PST on Friday, July 15, and spectators are admitted free.
